Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) for Treatment of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Concussion

In patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and persistent post-concussion symptoms, HBOT has been studied for its potential to improve brain metabolism, reduce neuro-inflammation, promote neuroplasticity, and enhance recovery in areas of the brain that may remain functionally impaired after injury. HBOT provides increased oxygen supply to the brain, reestablishing proper function to previously damaged neurological tissue. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has been successful in treating brain injuries at varying stages of severity as well as age.

While research remains ongoing, multiple studies have demonstrated improvements in cognitive function, memory, attention, executive function, quality of life, and brain imaging findings in selected patients with chronic TBI and persistent post-concussion syndrome following HBOT treatment.
